Loot council is a potentially very effective way of distributing loot. It's certainly my "ideal world" method. However it requires a very close knit group of friends, with a lot of trust, for it to be successful. Providing the council has good common sense and thinks in terms of progressing the raid, not in terms of selfishness and favouritism, it's definitely the best way to do things.

But as I say, it's fully dependent on the people in the guild being close, trusting, and more than anything else, intelligent.
