Nihilum (http://nihilum.mousesports.com/en/news/570,the_eradar_twins_down/) got their first (but not last ?) world first kill in the Sunwell Plateau by defeating the Twin Eredars on April 10th at 18:00 CEST. Congratulations to them.

Their loots were [item=34193], [item=34197], [item=34208], [item=35290], and [item=34858]

A lot of guilds (especially US) now go "oh ffs!"

I don't think they were ever off track. I just imagine that they weren't really bothered trying to kill themselves getting down bosses that were already defeated on the PTR.

Instead they keep their batteries charged for the megamarathon required to beat the twins encounter.

Twins were killed on PTRs though.

The live version is *very* different and a *lot* harder than the PTRs one. For once blizz buffed an encounter from PTRs to live :)

SK Gaming got world 2nd a few hours ago, and there is some extremly nice quality drama going on on Nihilum & US forums. Entertaining :D

Nah, they were pretty in trouble from what I heard on the Mag grapevine. Several members tried to guild hop to another guild I won't name. They also faked an alliance plea with two other guilds with plans to switch servers with them, all in order to get those competing guilds to switch servers away, so they could stay. It really was quite petty. Needless to say there was a member who betrayed their plans and told us all about it, so we all stayed just to piss them off.

Nevertheless, as is the case nowadays in WoW, if your entire guild gets a liveable wage to play (which believe me, it is; I've seen the figures), you're going to have the time to continue to make world firsts.

Edit: I do feel sorry for high level guilds now (well, not the ones that get paid :P), since the excitement and value of world firsts is being more and more trivialized, due to silly gate-opening mechanics etc.

I often stop reading when someone makes the point of Nilihum being payed to play the game. There are just as many people who live on the dole and ply the game full time. Possibly more so.

I would never hold it against someone if they were getting paid to play WoW, I'm quite envious tbh. They are pro-gamers. They are also the best. Also, I don't listen to slander without some kind of proof. I think they are great, and I think too many people begrudge them their success.

I know someone of someone who made a website of webcam footage of him sleeping. And so far he's earned over 36 thou euro in about a month and a half. If people find ways to earn money doing something other than an office job, good on them.

I never said earning money to play WoW was a bad thing. I said I didn't feel sorry for them for that reason. Shit, if I could earn money playing games I would.

By all means, don't believe it without proof, I presented it as a rumour (although I personally know my sources very well), nothing more. All I'm saying is that people credit them a little too much. I used to have huge respect for them, until I actually joined the culture of Magtheridon and found out a few home-truths first hand.

In the end, they are one of the most successful guilds in WoW, but the you may have noticed that the difference between them and the other top guys has all but disappeared since the others got good sponsorships. Trust me, when you're sponsored it suddenly becomes a lot easier to organise people and recruit.

I wonder what a bigger personal achievement would be;
- down a end boss as world first with your (sponsored) guild?
or
- get to the top ranks in a pvp tournament, eventually earning some nice cash prizes (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/arena/tournament/index.xml)?

Either way it's taking the game to another level, actually you can't call it a game anymore. Despite the payment, fame (some people see it that way) and perhaps seer fun it's a big challenge so lot's of respect from my side.

As Deadwish says, it's a totally different level of playing to what most of us are experienced with. The same is true of the machinations and accusations at that level of playing. "so and so ninja'd X Y or Z" suddenly becomes "the guys are pretended to be moving to another server in order to get all their competition to leave the server too" high e-drama at its best.

Indeed, it's drama, but as people were wondering, I was merely informing of the likely reasons behind Nihilum's slow uptake of the new content. They've had troubles, they've had drama.

After hearing the (joke) Kungen interview, I can't help but imagine him giving the guild a few words after SK gaming got felmyst first. Seemingly it workd :D

Some time ago, if you had joined the DB "culture", you could have heard alot of shit about Kindred.
Why? Same reasons top guilds (on each server) get trashed. I wouldn't trust that much the so called "culture".

Play the game and enjoy it irregardless of what others do. Server firsts are nice but in the end its your own enjoyment of the game that matters. If you don't enjoy it anymore then do what I did and just quit. No use in going all emo over a computer game :)

I find all this crazy tbh. They get world first kills, congrats to them, they are exceptional players, respect to them, but desipte what others think I'll never see it as anymore than a game. It's a world away from some athlete working his ass off for 4 years to get a gold medal at the olympics. I'm not trying to put down any of Nihilum or other like them, it's the whole drama and fanatics that follow them like they are A-list celebrities (well I don't care about A-list celebrities either so shows where I stand). Each to there own I guess :D

Okay, I used the wrong word really. I didn't really mean the culture, I more specifically meant that I knew a lot of Nihilum members, and spoke to them specifically about certain situations on vent, so I guess my information is a little more solid than I made it out to be. But meh, this is why I don't much discuss things on the Internet anymore; it's far too open to misunderstanding.

And on the other note of this becoming some kind of guild-trashing thread. I never really trashed anyone. I merely made the point that they were having troubles, hence why they weren't straight in with world firsts. Add to that the perception that they were slow to the kills, when the perception that other guilds were merely faster is just as valid.

But wouldn't playing WOW for a job bore the shit out of you more than it would normally?

Asking from a mild curiosity POV here, rather than a slamming one ...

Hardly , would give some extra motivation to play that game actually and not all of us are that bored of it, there are many ways to avoid boredom to hit you.

So playing WoW as a job to earn your keep rather than as a hobby wouldn't put a different complexion on the game for you, knowing you HAVE to go and play? (which although the top guilds here on DB raid 5-6 times a week, it's IMHO still in the category of it being a hobby for the most with most having day jobs/studies/kids to attend to during the day and playing in the evenings).
