Looking for Mod!

Mining sucks. It can earn you tons of money but in my personal experience it sucks.

Let me get into that. These stupid little dots on the minimap say wherever is a vein, si? Now my problem isn't really finding a good patrol route to catch a lot of deposits, my problem seems to be looking at the minimap at the right time. It's not the first time that I'm watching my screen to avoid this flying bird or 68 Elite that seems to be able to shoot me from the sky somehow while I miss the Rich Adamantite deposit on the minimap. Oh and whenever I do manage to catch them on my minimap, I somehow manage to instead of landing ón the deposit I launch myself right over a cliff at blazing speed and throw myself in the depts of the twisting nether.

Ahum.

So, all together I'm trying to say that I need an addon that alerts me whenever a deposit shows on my minimap. Like a sound or message on my screen. All so I can focus on where I'm flying at before I finally land in the iron cooking pot of some oversized ogre lord while my mind is trying to figure out how to get to that Fel iron.

hmmmm dunno about a mod that 'alerts' you to mining veins, but I use Gatherer so that I can look at my map and know what is where before heading out. Its not quite what you are after, granted; but may have a similar effect - if you KNOW a Rich Thorium Vein is over the next hill before it shows up on the mini-map, you can just concentrate on avoiding mobs ^^

(For anyone who's not used Gatherer, it stores info of any gathered resource (mining, herbalism etc) and stores it so that all your characters can access all the discovered quantities, even if they are new to an area (say, Hellfire in Outland). So long as one of your characters has been to (Hellfire, to use the same example) - ALL your characters with the Gatherer Mod enabled will know where all the resource points are that have been discovered by ANY of the characters on your account - this also works across all Servers)

I know exactly what you mean Hall - something that pops up a message or plays a sound as soon as a node appears on your minimpa.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an event in the API for this that would allow an addon to hook on to. The only way I could see it working without an event is if the map nodes were actually separate models, as you could compare new models when the map updates - sadly they aren't. :frown:

Yes, but the range you need to be in for a vein to pop up on the minimap stays the same. which is acturly a lot smaller then a full zoomed out minimap

Yeah. It's the max zoom minus one that realisticly shows the range you can find deposits on.
Too bad there's no way to do it. I downloaded the Carthographer thingy but I'm not sure what it does now to be honest!

When you tap a mineral vein, it will put a marker both on your world and minimap, so you can check again in future (as well as a load of other crap). Make sure you have the Cartographer_Mining addon, as well as the basic Cartographer

I used gatherer a while back, but I came to the conclusion that I never used it (you get a good understanding of where Blizzard places stuff after a while). So now Im down to 3 addons! threatmeter, DBM and ItemRack. :D
